Art is the expressions of ones’ emotions through various creative activities like painting, dancing, singing, photography and literature. While an artist is channelizing his feelings on paper or through any medium, a number of people are seeking it and understanding it in their own different way.
“We need new ideas, we need new ways of doing things and we need a whole new way of approaching each other with much more empathy and understanding. This means that the rest of society really needs to focus on the world of art and culture as a vital source for not only solutions, but also ways of finding solutions and a whole new concept of what a valuable life really means.” – Uffe Elbaek, former Danish Minister of Culture.
Everyone can look at art and say “Wow” but not everyone connects to it and tries to find a meaning in it. Art directly connects to the heart. People have always used art to communicate ideas in a beautiful manner. Before human beings taught themselves how to read and write, they used images to tell stories. Even creative writing is a way of communicating in a beautiful manner. All forms of art somehow convey a message. Art awakens a sense of creativity, joy, contentment, and peace in a person. Artist these days have started conveying more informative and important issues through their artwork which is indeed influencing a lot of people and have started implementing in their day to day lives.
“Art helps us identify with one another and expands our notion of ‘We’, from the local to the global.”– Olafur Eliasson, Artist
Art does not show people what to do, yet it awakens a sense of responsibility, and connects to the body and mind. People start thinking about the things that matter just by looking at a piece of art concerning a certain issue and think of ways to change. Art connects to a person psychologically. Art seeks a transformative experience and as it transports us into a world which we know nothing about, yet love to be there. Art gives people an insight, improves their observation and helps them think in a better way. When social causes are depicted through art, each one of us can think of a solution even if it would bring a very little change. Art brings people close and helps them socialise, thus removing the walls of stereotypes and false judgements. If a poor guy is singing melodiously, people will appreciate him and will wish to hear more of his songs, even though he belongs to the poor society. Art helps us think positively rather than being negative in every situation. It awakens a magical sense in us that we know nothing about and those who follow this sense bring a change in the world. Art has been connecting souls since a long time and if we continue to appreciate and create it the way people have been since centuries, most of the problems of the world would easily vanish.
