TRADITION

My paintings reflect on the lives of rural middle aged women. Through the depiction of their gestures, activities and attitudes I have tried to define certain social situations. The norms of ritual, tradition and culture dictate the lives of rural people far more than urban people. The notions of a women’s place being only within the confines of the household and not out into the open world are still much prevalent in these societies. Belonging from the similar rural background felt the urge to depict their situation as an intimate observer of their lives.
